Pallar
2024
Pallar is a white, large, semi-flat, kidney-shaped legume that is consumed all over the world. This body of work is inspired by this ancestral staple food , domesticated in Peru and represented in the ceramic of Pre-Columbian cultures in Peru.
Pallar are one of the Andean beans that have been consumed in Peru since ancient times. Evidence of its existence dates from 6000 to 5000 B.C. and appears represented in the expressive pottery of the Moche culture, which lived in the coastal valleys of northern Peru.
Spanish colonial settlers took this staple food as a commodity trade. With the scientific name Phaseolus Lunatus, named Lima bean for the city where the Spaniards first found it, and with different names all over the world, it keeps its original name Pallar, mostly in Peru.
